# Mahjong Solitaire — provenance

**Original code, written for ExeBrowser.** `mahjong.js` and `index.html` were
written from scratch for this site and are licensed **MIT**, like the rest of
the ExeBrowser frontend. The four layouts (Turtle, Pyramid, Bridge, Fortress)
are our own 136-tile arrangements.

## Tile artwork

`tiles/*.svg` is the "Regular" set from
[FluffyStuff/riichi-mahjong-tiles](https://github.com/FluffyStuff/riichi-mahjong-tiles)
at commit 26e127b, dedicated to the public domain under **CC0** (`tiles/LICENSE.md`).
`node scripts/build-mahjong-tiles.mjs` fetches it and strips Inkscape metadata.

We deliberately did not use ffalt/mah's tile sets: several have no stated
licence, and its "Kyodai" sets reproduce trademarked artwork.

## Rules

Standard mahjong solitaire: match identical free tiles; a tile is free when
nothing covers it and its left or right side is open. Deals are generated by
playing a random game backwards, so every deal (and every shuffle) can be
cleared.
